REI, Rhythmic Entrainment Intervention ???

Has anyone heard of this therapy?  I was on the website for the speech language pathologist that was recommended to me by the audiologist that diagnosed our son (long phrase there!) and came across this treatment under her "Auditory Processing Management" section, along with FastForWord and Earobics.  Will try to attach a link to the website.

I emailed the speech language pathologist and gave her a brief description of our son's problems.  I hope to hear back from her soon, to make sure the strategies and treatments recommended by the audiologist aren't missing anything.  If there's anything else we can do for our son, I want it done, no matter what other specialists I need to talk to.

Re: REI, Rhythmic Entrainment Intervention ???

I have heard of something similar. Synchronized metranome training. I do not know if they are effective for auditory processing disorder, but I have read that these types of therapies have dramatic effects on neurologic issues such dyslexia or sensory integration disorder. The OT at school told me the metranome training is very repetitive and boring, and she had an option to bring it into the school, but she did not because she felt kids would not follow through because of the boredom factor. I do know the listening therapies (AIT, Enlisten, The Listening Program, etc) are suppose to be helpful for CAPD, but I don't believe there is any credible research to prove this.

I have recently come across some information about retained primary reflexes. http://www.moveplaythrive.com/Un-integr … lexes.html  It's kind of a long-winded explanation, but the basic idea is that a baby is born with reflexes, and sometimes they do not get integrated into the body. When they are not integrated, it stunts the neurologic development. Apparently there are movement therapies that can unstick the reflexes, and these movement therapies have profound results in terms of learning disabilities. I've been reading research studies that have shown children cured of dyslexia, reading challenges and even visual processing problems. It is suggested that this also helps with CAPD, but I have not found a study that proves it.

Based on my intuition, I am going to Seattle in November to be trained in this movement therapy. It's a big hop skip for me, but something tells me it's the right direction. I have read the symptoms of specific retained reflexes, and my son has many of them. This seems like a simple solution for a complex problem, but the therapists who offer this say they see profound results over and over. Unfortunately there are very few therapists in this country who do this movement therapy, so I at least feel fortunate that I found one on the West coast!

Anybody else heard of retained primary reflexes? I originally read about it on an CAPD board in facebook where a mom said her son's CAPD was significantly improved as a result. I will check back and let you know how it goes when we do it here.

Good for you Bonnie!  Keep us updated about your progress.

I've never heard of that, I guess there's something else for the "research" list!!!
