Our son gets his testing tomorrow, I'll be so glad when it's done

Our son is finally going to have his testing for the CAPD diagnosis tomorrow.  We got the diagnosis/procedure codes, and verified with our insurance company that they pay for the tests and diagnosis.  The treatment options will be discussed afterward, since we're hoping that the school district will pick up most of it. If we need to explore other therapies that they won't pay for, I'll go back to the insurance company and see what they pay for.

I came to find out yesterday that our son's english teacher not only has CAPD herself, but her 2 brothers also have it.  She and one brother were diagnosed early due to hearing loss, but her other brother didn't get a diagnosis till he was 17!  So she's educating other teachers as to how to handle issues with our son.  I'll just be glad to have the testing finished and get the results so we can start treatment ASAP.  I'll post again and let you all know the results.

I hope everyone's lives are without stress, and that things are working for you.

UGH, more waiting!  The testing went well, he has no actual hearing loss or ear problems.  Now we have to wait a week for the test results and for strategies on what to do next.  A WEEK???  I haven't slept right for days waiting on these tests, now I'll have to wait another 7 days.  I could tell during the testing, especially in the part where they gave him words with background noise, he was missing a lot of them.

I think I'll need to check out my supply of Xanax and try to get some sleep.

Re: Our son gets his testing tomorrow, I'll be so glad when it's done

Duranie, aren't you going in Thursday for your son's additional tests? I do hope you're doing okay. Sounds like this was a stressful process for you. Once diagnosed, there is a huge sense of relief. It just validates our intuition. That's great you have a teacher who understands CAPD. Very rare for educators to know about it. I hope we can all start educating teachers, and maybe in time kids with CAPD get noticed by teachers like kids with dyslexia are often discovered.

Let us know how the tests come out!
Take care,
Bonnie

Re: Our son gets his testing tomorrow, I'll be so glad when it's done

His testing was done last week, we had to wait a week to find out the results.  He won't be in the office with us when we get them.  My husband took the entire morning off, I think because he knows how anxious I'll be for all this.  I'm nervous, excited, and just wanting to know already.  It feels like forever that we've waited for this diagnosis.  Thanks for posting Bonnie, I appreciate it more than you know.  smile
