About this Site

CAPDsupport was created by a mother who walked the path of figuring out her son had central auditory processing disorder. After 3 years of special education and speech therapy for her son, nobody had an answer as to why he did not answer questions, or why he had a speech delay to begin with. Suddenly put into general education Kindergarten, he developed an attention problem that never appeared before. Initially reading about CAPD in an article, she was convinced the symptoms matched those of her son, but nobody else was as convinced. As her son was already in special education, auditory processing was brought up in IEP meetings. But the school specialists refused to listen. So began a journey of research, discovery and understanding, and finally it let to an audiologist who would test a 6-1/2 year old child. The tests showed without a doubt that her son had a severe auditory processing issue in the presence of ambient noise.

This site was created in hopes that it would shortcut the journey that parents or adults take in the discovery process around CAPD. While searching the web there are many sites on the subject, most of these sites are old with outdated links, and many focus on just one aspect of CAPD. The hope for CAPDsupport is that this site will be community-generated, with input from all who know about CAPD so those who are searching for answers can come to one place for the information.

A diagnosis of central auditory processing disorder is not an endpoint.

Much can be done to remediate or accommodate the issues that arise.

Understanding, patience and persistence are your greatest tools.
